A Flea in Her Ear

Connecticut Repertory Theatre
November/December 2010

A Flea in Her Ear is a door slamming farce set at the beginning of the twentieth century in Paris.  The goal for the scenic design for this production was to create a strong differentiation between the staid outward appearance of the family's home for Acts one and three while creating a lush highly suggestive environment for the hotel in Act Two.  The home embraces the apparent formality and history of a well to do French family through the use of traditional style furnishings, wallpaper, trim, and dressings.  In contrast the hotel reflects the inner passions of the characters through the use of rich colors and Art Nouveau styling.  The organic motifs of the set are seen in the overall ground plan of the space as well as the shaping and painting of the walls.
